Additional Resource
Crossing Safely
Walking and riding have considerable health benefits for individuals, the community and the environment and should be encouraged as a mode of transport to and from school. However, road safety is not an intrinsic or automatic skill. Research shows that children 10 years and under do not have all the skills required to be safe in traffic independently. It’s important therefore, for children to learn and understand the risks and develop strategies for staying safe and managing traffic situations.
This page provides access to lesson plans and supporting education material to assist primary school teachers, students, parents and carers in developing safe independent travel habits for children.
The lesson plans align with the Victorian Curriculum and have been specifically developed for delivery in Victorian schools.
